Loving & Learning Family Daycare is located in North Branch, MI (5298 Clear Lake Road) between Lake Pleasant and M-53

PRESCHOOL IS NOW ENROLLING: (Ages 2-5)
This pre-school program is not child care. Our schedule is filled with Math, Science, Language Arts, Spanish and other lessons. Our curriculum also includes "buddy reading," with kids describing books to one another, field trips for hands on learning and outdoor activities. The children also learn basic computer skills and enjoy art activities daily.

Circle time example: During circle time, our 2 to 4-year-olds sit cross-legged with whiteboards and black markers in hand as the teacher says, "Up, down, up, down" over classical music. These tots make marks similar to an "M'' as the teacher instructs.

The kids eat breakfast and lunch family style, so they learn proper etiquette. Songs are sung as the children move between activities to help curb behavior problems. Loving & Learning Family Daycare teaches children coping skills and forms lasting relationships to bond with children and parents.

After completing the Preschool program at Loving & Learning Family Daycare, the children go into the regular school system better prepared to succeed in school.

Loving & Learning Family Daycare has the following Openings for the Preschool (9:00am-2:00pm) Class: One Monday and Friday space & Two Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday spaces OR One Monday thru Friday space & one Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday space. Preschool is ages 2 to 4. Cost is only $25/day. Meals are included!!! Wrap around care (6am-9am and 2pm-6pm) is FREE for every preschool child! Our Preschool Program is YEAR ROUND & we can enroll at anytime!

CHILD CARE IS ENROLLING: (5 weeks to 2 years)
I am available for full time and part time enrollments. I also offer drop in child care for parents that need occasional care for their children. My rates are reasonable and my scheduling is flexible.

Parent's Night Out (a Monthly Over Night Child Care Program) Sept. 23rd

Loving & Learning Family Daycare in North Branch offers a monthly program called Parent's Night Out. With this program parents can bring their children to my daycare at 7:00pm on Friday evening (already dressed in their pajamas & fed dinner) and pick them up by 9:00am Saturday.

Parent's get the whole night out for just $25/child and your child gets to have an awesome time making new friends & playing games!!!

Your children will enjoy making a craft and playing games Friday evening. We will also have an evening snack then fall alseep to a movie.

In the morning the children will enjoy some yummy pancakes and a game of teatherball/air hockey before you pick them up!

All parents need to provide is contact information, a small pillow and a blanket. (Parents of Infant children must provide diapers, wipes, change of clothes & all infant food).

Payment is due when you drop your children off. Parent's need to pre-register their children for Parent's Night Out. Now's the time to call your friends and plan a night out together. Your children do NOT need to be enrolled in my daycare to participate in the Parent's Night Out Program. This program is for children ages 6 weeks to 13 years.

VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY:

We had a great Valentine's Day party! Lillian and Makaylah made the best cupcakes ever! Thank you to Zackie's Mom & Dad for the Valentine's Day gift bags. All of the kids loved them. Lillian's lollipops were awesome and Zachary's nerds rocked!

PICTURES:

Your children enjoyed the awards ceremony on 12 February at Denbo. Alex did enjoy it the most; he clapped the loudest and shouted "YEAH" for every child that won an award. It was great! I had two teachers tell me that all of your children are beautiful and very well behaved. That was a great compliment and I was very proud of your children during the awards ceremony.

Since they did so well, I took them to McDonald's for a treat. The kids and I had a great time. Thank you for allowing me to take them out that day. Pictures of our trip to McDonald's are posted below.

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT:

Parent's Night Out scheduled for 19 February is FULL. I am so happy to see so many parents taking advantage of this program. If you were not able to particpate this month please sign up early for next month.

The next Parent's Night Out is scheduled for 12 March.

Parents are welcome to drop their children off at 7pm Friday evening and pick them up by 9:00am Saturday morning. The cost is just $20/child. Please feed your children dinner before dropping them off and bring them over in their pajamas. There will be a sign up sheet at the front door.

Please, Please, Please make sure you are on time picking your children up on Saturday morning. Late fees in the amount of $1.00/minute will be charged to anyone who arrives after 9:00am to pick up their child(ren).

Also remember that this special night of childcare at discounted rates is open to the public (children do not need to be enrolled in my daycare to participate). So please spread the word to family, firends and co-workers

NOTICE OF PROVIDER VACATION:

I will be taking a vacation in April beginning 5 April and ending 9 April. (This is the week of Spring Break for the Pemberton Township Students)

Per our contracts I am not responsible for obtaining alternate care; however you know I am not going to leave you hanging. Let me know if you would like information on a substitute provider.

UPDATES: Parent's Night Out Resheduled & Provider Notice of Vacation

SUBSTITUE IN AFTERNOON ON 27 JANUARY:

My Substitute provider (Ms. Faith) will be here 27 January from 2:00pm until closing. I am asking that everyone please be here on time to pick up your children. I will be here when you all drop your children off in the morning until 2:10pm. Every child that does not go to school will be given a take home sheet when they are picked up since I will not be here to tell you about your child’s day. All of the children have met Ms. Faith and they enjoy playing games with her if I need to be absent for any reason. EARLY PICK UP:
On Wednesday February 10th I would greatly appreciate it if everyone could make arrangements to pick their children up by 5:00pm. My Husband and I have a graduation ceremony to attend.

VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY:
We will be having a Valentine’s Day Party on Friday February 12th at 3:45pm. If you would like your children to pass out valentine’s/candy or treats during our party please send them to daycare that morning. Parent’s are invited to come join the party. We plan on making cookies and cupcakes for our party during the day on Thursday & Friday.

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT:
Parent's Night Out has been rescheduled for 19 February this month due to the holiday on 15 February.

Parents are welcome to drop their children off at 7pm Friday evening and pick them up by 9:00am Saturday morning. The cost is $20/child. Please feed your children dinner before dropping them off and bring them over in their pajamas. There will be a sign up sheet at the front door.

Please, Please, Please make sure you are on time picking your children up on Saturday morning. Late fees in the amount of $1.00/minute will be charged to anyone who arrives after 9:00am to pick up their child(ren).

What we’ve been up to & what we’re looking forward to:
We had a wonderful time at storybook land! I took lots of pictures and I will get them up on the website in a few days.

The weather has been great the past few days (not today) and we’ve been enjoying a lot of extra outdoor fun. We set up a volley ball net and enjoyed playing the “over the net thing game” (as Amelia & Julia say). The trampoline is gone and the pool is up. Please make sure your children have a spare swim suit that they can leave at daycare.

Comfortable shoes and properly fitting clothing is very important at daycare. As the weather continues to get nicer and nicer, we will be spending much more time outdoors. If you have not done so already, please provide me with suntan lotion and a hat for your child. Little swimmers for the untrained children need to be provided as well.

School is out of 23 June! We are ready for the summer and can’t wait!

Wow how the time has been flying by!

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their help and support when I had to have surgery. Everything went very well and I am glad you all had a pleasant experience with my other substitute Ms. Corinne.

Since my last post we have been very busy. The children made necklaces for Mother's Day; which included making the beads, cooking them and then painting them. It was a three day process which the children truly enjoyed. (There will be a slide show of their necklace making craft down below this post.)

We have also started "Family Style Dining" at lunch time. Instead of me putting the children's lunch on their plates then serving them, we have been making lunch time more of a family time routine. The children set the table, help prepare lunch (including mixing food, cooking and cutting with butter knives--of course). Then I put all of the food on plates or bowls in the center of the big table with serving spoons. The children now dish out their own food and help each other by passing plates down to me to be filled. (For example Derek will hand his plate to Amelia, then Amelia will give it to me so it can be filled with the food item that is out of Derek's reach.) The children have learned to only take what they can eat, then get more after they are done. We all wait until everyone has their food and then we all eat together as a family. Your children really enjoy this and look forward to it every day.

During lunch time we talk about what we have done so far in the day and what we will be doing after nap time. We also talk about our food and what it does for our bodies. For example: we had carrots the other day and Julia asked what they did to make her healthy. I explained that carrots help her see better. Amelia wanted to know how so we looked out the window at the house across the street. Then I had them eat one carrot and look out the window again. "Magically" they were able to see flowers in the neighbors yard because the carrots made them see better. All of the sudden everyone ate all of their carrots and they were asking for more! (Now if anyone has a good story about how broccoli will "magically" help our bodies I would love to hear it!)

Family Style Dining is a great way for your children to build social skills, use manners and listen to each other. If you do not already use these techniques at dinner time, I would like to encourage you to begin family style dining as much as possible.

Summer is just around the corner and I am almost done planning. We have Tumblin' Tots coming for one class per week beginning Thursday 18 June. Please see me for your registration forms. This is for children ages 2-6 only.

I am working on having a Karate Lesson for the children as well.

Field Trip information: All field trips will be posted on this website calendar within the next few weeks. There will also be permission slip notes posted on the front door. Please remember that per our contracts field trip entrance fees are the parents responsibility. Also, if for any reason you do not want your child to attend a field trip you will need to make alternate arrangements for childcare on that day. (your fees will not be prorated due to not attending the field trip).

So that I can finish planning out the Summer please let me know as soon as possible about any vacations you are planning to take in June, July or August. As of right now, my vacation in July is on for 6-10 July. I have Ms. Kelly set up to provide care during my absence.

Parents:
My weekly postings will be changing to monthly postings, with the occasional update being added to let you all know about the progress your children are making.
I will post our learning objectives, activities schedule and various other items in the new monthly post.
We will continue our sight words, spanish, math concepts, reading and writing as usual; however it will be done on a lower scale. Some of the children seemed to be getting bogged down with "work". Although this "work" seemed to make a lot of parents very happy, my daycare is a place for learning, creating, imagination and fun.
Now that the nicer weather is coming we will be outside exploring more and learning about what is around us by rolling around in the grass, making mud pies and digging for bugs. (All of the wonderful things we did as kids.)

Just a quick heads up: I will be having Ms. Jennifer Rizzo from Tumblin Tots here again this summer. She runs a wonderful program and the children lover her classes which are taught throughtout our community. Last year I had parents bring to my attention that they would love for their children to become involved in extra activities, but the parents schedules did not allow for this. I contacted Jen Rizzo and she agreed to bring her program to us. It was such a wonderful success last year that Jen has happily agreed to do it all over again! I am very excited. As the summer gets closer and the details become available I will pass the information along.

First I'd like to make a quick correction-- Alex's last day will be next week, not this week. (So I get to keep him and love him and spoil him one more week!)

This week we are concentration on our numbers. We will be writing numbers, counting numbers and coloring numbers.

We had so much fun rhyming last week that we are doing it again this week. I cannot wait to hear the funny words that your children will come up with during our rhyming games. Please remember that right now rhyming words do not need to make sense so Honey can rhyme with Money, Woney or Toney (J.P. came up with Goofy, Poofy and Loofy). Rhyming should be fun so try and see how many funny "words" you and your child can come up with.

Week of 2 March - 6 March

This week we are talking about rhyming words (cat-hat big-pig). We have a few games to play which will make learning more fun. The 3-year-olds will be coming home with a new book this week. Please keep reading their books at home.

We have been reading a lot in daycare over the past few weeks. Our favorite books are "The Foot Book", "The Hungry Caterpillar" and our all time favorite "Hugs". Children love to hear the same stories over and over, so if you have these books at home please read and reread them to your children.

This Friday is Parents Night Out. Please let me know if your children will be attending. The hours are Friday 7pm until Saturday 9am. The cost is just $20/child. Please feed them dinner and put them in their Bobos (P.J.'s) before dropping them off.

Now on to some sad news--- Alex is moving. His last day will be next Thursday. He has grown so much during the time he has been with us and I will miss him very much.
Taking Alex's place is Emma(Luke's baby sister). She is a beautiful baby girl and I am very excited about her joining us!

Please keep yourselves updated with the calender at the bottom of this page. I have added a provider vacation week from 13 April until 17 April. I have an alternate provider (Ms. Kelly) set in place to provide care for your children in my absence. If anyone would like to use her during my vacation period please let me know so I can book your children with her.

Wow! What a great week last week. We had two great potty trainers (Derek & Makaylah). You guys did a great job. I am so proud of you! We will keep up with potty training, giving out stickers and sending the pages home. Please keep up with your potty charts at home.

We celebrated Valentine's Day and made some heart cookies and sugar cookies. The kids also exchanged valentines this year.

I hope everyone enjoyed Monday off. We had a great time visiting family in Pennsylvania.

This week we are going back over some previously learned skills since we have a few new children with us. I'd like to give a special thanks to Zachary B.'s parents for donating 4 packs of flash cards to our daycare. Thanks you! We will be using them this week to go over our shapes, opposites, numbers and start some word blending.

Please remember to keep yourselves updated on special days, such as closings, birthdays and parent's night out by viewing the calendar at the bottom of this website.

We've been having a great week! The potty training has been going very well. (Way to go Derek!- He earned two stickers in one day!) Hopefully we can keep the momentum going. Let's get everyone earning stickers next week!

If your child is potty training please remember that this is something they must do on their own with little help "preparing". (Meaning they need to be able to pull their pants down on their own). Overalls, onesies and tight pants can discourage the children from training. Please make sure your children are sent to daycare with pants they can easily manage to pull down on their own. Also, please keep working with them at home. Take them into the bathroom when you go and tell them what you are doing. Your assistance is GREATLY appreciated.

Week of 2 - 6 February

Last week we said good-bye to Mark. He is now at a daycare that is much closer to his house. This week we will say Hello to Zachary (another one)! Zachary is a wonderful little boy with lots of spunk. I am sure he will make friends right away. I met his parents back in November and I am very happy to have him joining our daycare family.

This week we will be doing something a little different. We will continue to review our sight words, math skills and spanish lessons; however we will be focusing more on basic skills this week. We have some new board games to teach us about using manners, following directions and taking turns. All of the children will be participating in these games.

We will also be working on the daily tasks of putting our shoes on, puting our coats on, washing our hands and brushing our teeth. I have purchased tooth brushes for each of the children. After breakfast, snacks and lunch we will begin brushing our teeth. This will reinforce the concepts of "taking care of our bodies" with the children.

We have 3 children who are ready to start potty training and this week we will help boost their confidence and let them know what is going on in the bathroom when the older children are in there. Amelia, Julia and J.P. will be our "Assistant Potty Trainers". They will each partner with a younger child to help them on the way to potty training.

This Friday will also be the monthly Parent's Night Out. Please sign your children up as soon as possible. You are all welcome to drop your children off Friday night at 7pm and pick them up by 9am Saturday morning for just $20 a child. Happy Birthday to Colin this week (20 January)! He's turning 3!

Our learning topics for this week include:

Color words. This is not color recognition. The children are learning to read their colors as sight words. We are learning to read red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.

Word Families for "at". (Hat, Cat, Sat, Rat, Mat, Bat). We have a book using these word families and our sight words from previous weeks which the children will read and color.

Spanish Language- House-casa, table-mesa, chair-silla, door-puerta, bathroom-bano (with ~ over the n, but I can't figure that out...Ha!)

Math- The children did a great job counting by 10's to 100 in previous weeks. I am sure all of you are tired of hearing the count by 10's to 100 song, so we are moving on. Using the School House Rock songs we will start working on counting by 5's to 100.

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year's and enjoyed their time off. I'd like to thank everyone for giving me the day off on Friday as well. My family and I greatly appreciated the extra day off so we could spend more time with family. Thank-you!

This week it is back to work with our preschool lessons. We will review our Spanish and sight words on Monday and Tuesday. There are also a few songs we will go over again as well.

We will continue learning our body parts in Spanish with the song Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes (Cabesa, Hombros, Piernas, Pies).

It is also back to writing our letters and reviewing their sounds. This week our letters are M,N,O & P. We will make a letter collage with with pictures that begin with those letters. If anyone has old magazines I would greatly appreciate it if you would bring them to daycare for us to use with our crafts.

I would also like to inform all parents that I currently have 2 open slots in my daycare. One is for full time and the other is for a part-time/drop in on Mondays and Fridays. I am offering my current daycare parents $25 off 1 week of tuition for a referral/enrollment. So if you know anyone in need of care please pass my information along. If they enroll their child I will give you the $25 credit on the following week's tuition.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas Holiday last week. My family and I enjoyed lots of Hot Chocolate, cookies, candy and gifts from Santa.

I just wanted to remind everyone to please keep toys at home. I know the children are excited about their new toys from Santa, but it is very important that they keep their new toys at home. Speaking of new toys: we have some new board games for the kids to play, new bats and balls and tons of new crafts supplies.

We will be spending this short week talking about how we take care of our toys, take turns and we will even take a stab at "sharing" with the 1-year-olds.

The kids will be playing Chutes and Ladders and learning to count on (meaning- when the children land on the number 5, then spin a number 4 they will count on from 5 by adding the 4 to get 9. It may sound strange but it is another great skill to help them with math concepts and we will have fun while learning.) The kids will also be enjoying some Play-Doh fun with cookie cutters and we will talk about the New Year.

Please check back through my older posts to review our Spanish words with the kids. They are all doing a wonderful job learning their new language (as they call it) and we need to work together to keep reminding them of words they have learned in past weeks.

Reminder- I am closed on New Year's Day. So far there will be no children in attendance on Friday. I will personally double check with each family by Tuesday and if no one is in need of care for Friday I will be closing that day as well and heading to PA to see family (my brother and his wife just had another baby boy 3 weeks ago).

We had a wonderful Christmas party while all of the parents enjoyed some extra shopping time without the kiddos. The children watched a Christmas movie, strung cereal garland for our Christmas Tree, built some amazing things with legos, made a holiday ornament and finally decorated our Daycare Christmas tree. It was a great day and it was nice to catch up with some of our old daycare kiddos as well as meeting some of our future daycare kids.

This week we want to welcome Zachary (also known as the Zack attack) to our daycare before and after school.

We have a very short week this week. Please check the calendar below and note that daycare will be closed on Christmas Day and the day afterwards. Since most of my children are only coming Monday and Tuesday we will be chillin' out this week. The kids have a few last-minute crafts to finish up for their parents and some Christmas songs left to sing. (Thank you Mia for teaching us Feliz Navidad!)

I'd like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. I hope Santa brings you everything you asked for, want and need.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very excited to see everyone again. We did say good-bye to Brian and Joey last week and they will be missed terribly. On a happy note, Joey will be back with us over the summer!!

This week we will be learning:

The letters Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo
Spanish Colors: pink-rosado (row-sod-doe), Purple-Morado (more-rod-doe), black-negro & white-blanco (blonk-oh)
Spanish numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Shapes- Triangle, Diamond (we will also review last weeks shapes)
Sizes- Small, Big, Huge (Big Bigger, Biggest)
Farm animals and their sounds

We will also be making our "count down to Christmas chains" and begin making Family Christmas Presents. Please send in shoes boxes with your children this week.

Children's Christmas Party will be on 13 December from 9:00am-2:00pm. Please remember to pack your children a lunch. As my Christmas present to all daycare parents I am providing childcare on this day FREE of charge so that you can finish up last minute Christmas shopping (or get in a quick nap) while I entertain your children with a party. Please sign your children up before next Friday.
